Bury Metro Model Flying Club,
or Bury Model Flying Club as it was known as in those days, was formed over 30 years ago.
Since forming, The name has changed and some of the original members are still with us (and still teaching "the young uns a trick or two")
To date, the club boasts over 100 members and more are joining every month.

The Club Fields:

The club has two fields, one for Fixed Wing and one for Helicopters with reasonable parking facilities for both.
You will find that all members are welcoming and friendly and will offer help and give advice on all flying matters.
Both fields are open for flying 364 Days A Year, sorry no flying Christmas Day, with a SECURE On Site Clubhouse at the fixed wing field that has cooking facilities (make a brew and bacon butties) and storage for your odds and ends for short periods.
We also have a Gas BBQ for those long summer days, events and our increasingly popular Night Flying Events.

Thinking Of Taking Up The Hobby?:
If you are thinking of taking up the hobby the obvious question you would first ask yourself would be "how much is it all going to cost" ? You may also be saying to yourself "what happens if I spend loads of money on a model and equipment and find out it's just not for me"

BMMFC can help you by offering you a chance to come down to the field, have a chat with the members, Buddy Up with an instructor and "Have A Go" with our Club Trainer (a fixed wing, I/C powered Model Trainer)

The instructor will take you through the basic Safety Rules applying to the type of model you will be flying, basic instruction on the control movements on the model and instructions on the Transmitter.
He will then give you a Pre Flight Briefing before getting the model in the air. Once you feel comfortable, the controls will be handed over to you on the Buddy System to "Have A Go"
Any mistakes you make will be instantly corrected by the instructor by the simple flick of a switch.

If you would like to Have a Go before committing to the hobby, please try and book in advance by contacting one of the Committee Members (CLICK HERE) or Tel: 07576719883.

You will nearly always find someone at the field, during the week and at weekends, weather permitting. It is a good idea though, to check who is at the field before you go. You can do this by checking the forum "Who's at the field"

Instructors:

BMMFC has instructors for Mode 1 (throttle on RIGHT) And Mode 2 (throttle on LEFT) Flyers for both Fixed Wing and Helicopter and facilities to use the much needed "Buddy Leads" to help get you through your basic flight training. There will always be someone to offer help and advice with equipment you need, what to get, and the best place to get it.

Events:

BMMFC hold many events throughout the season, for example: Auctions, Swapmeets, Bring A Model Night, Fun Fly Events, Open Days, Public Demonstrations, Boxing Day BBQ and of course, Night Flying Events. All events are open to Members and None Members and we especially welcome all from other Model Flying Clubs, both fixed wing and helicopter.

Want To Join BMMFC:

If you are looking to join BMMFC, please read "So You Want To Fly?" in the New Members section. Also please read the
"Club Rules".
You will also find a lot of other useful information in the New Members section such as Club Frequencies, Prop Sizes and Pre-Flight Checks. Links to all these can be found in the Main Navigation Bar at the TOP of every page.

Do Not be afraid to ask questions. If you ask a member a question and they don't know the answer, they will always pass you on to someone who does.

Visit the club, come down and see us fly, get to know the members, see what equipment they are using and what would be best for you. Then, when you are happy with what you see (and you will be) ask for an application form, or use the "Online Application Form" and you will soon be "Up and Away!"

BMMFC welcome members of all ages and abilities no matter what stage flying you are at, from complete novice to National Standards. It also helps if you have a good sense of humour..... the ability to stand in a freezing cold field saying why the hell are we doing this..... and carry a good supply of bin bags. As the saying goes..
"You don't have to be mad to join us, but it helps if you are"

All joking apart, BMMFC do have a serious side though when it comes to SAFETY matters. We can all have fun but SAFETY COMES FIRST! Any breach of Safety Rules are jumped upon by Committee members and Club Members alike.

BMMFC is Disability Friendly!
Being disabled myself, I wondered if the club would be able to accommodate me. I can say from day one of joining, every member I met was very helpful and understanding. Two members in particular have gone well beyond the call of duty with help and advice, along with their unique humour. I would like to thank Austin & Andy for all they have done.

If you are disabled in any way, you will find all members are willing to help out in any way they can, giving good advice, helping you unload/load your model & equipment, getting you to & from the flight line and most important, getting you flying!

A word of warning though, it is a field we fly from and fields can and do get muddy... So, if you are wheelchair bound, it may get a little difficult to get around the Pit area and to/from the flight line.
The field is not always like this, winter periods are the obvious times of year for these conditions. In Summer/Dry periods, the ground is firm with no problems apart from the odd Mole hill.

No doubt someone will come up with something to help you out if the fields are wet but please be aware of the limitations of a wheelchair on a possible wet/muddy field.

The main problem is at the entrance to the Fix Wing field where there is obvious heavy traffic. Once you get over that first few feet and into the Pit area, the ground gets much better.
On the Helicopter field, you may need help to get over a step at the gate... Shout loud enough, someone will come along and help you. If there is no one there, please come down to the Fixed Wing Field.

Overall, whatever your disability, you would be welcome at BMMFC.

Please, enjoy the website, make good use of all the features it offers and remember...
ALL constructive comments and suggestions are more than welcome to help improve the site
and make it how you want it.
