of the following rules because we all want to keep the Unsworth Moss Farm

disciplinary action being taken. Please note that we have two fields at this
site; The primary patch is for Fixed Wing Aircraft Only and the secondary
patch is for Helicopters Only Please refer to the site Map Click Here To
See.
- Drive down the road through Simister Slowly and
Courteously. Give way to other cars and horses. On the track which crosses
the Motorway Bridge please be careful because Simister residents walk
their dogs and children play on the track. also look out for children from
Egypt Farm just over the bridge.

Frequencies.
- Frequency control for ALL flyers is
the PEG-ON PEG-OFF system using the Peg Board situated in the Pits
on the Primary Patch. You MUST have a Peg with Your Name on
it before you can fly at this site. Always remember to "Close
Down Your Frequency" by returning the Peg after you have flown.
- Park Single File on the LEFT hand side of
the track as you approach the 'T' junction near the field. NO PARKING
on the Right hand side or on the track which runs alongside the field.
- All models must meet the 82dB(A) noise
limit prior to flying as specified in the general rules. It is Your
responsibility to make sure that your model is quiet. The club owns
several noise meters and committee members can arrange to meet you at the
field to carry out tests.
- Total engine capacity of any model must not
exceed 50cc
- Flying times for internal combustion engine
models are 10am to 9pm on Weekdays and 10amto 6pm on Saturday,
Sunday and Bank Holidays. Silent Flight models (e.g Electric) may be
flown at Any Time. No Flying Christmas Day For ALL Models.
The following rules apply specifically
to Fixed Wing Aircraft (The Primary Patch)
- NO Taking Off directly towards the wires
or the Pits irrespective of wind direction. Under certain
conditions it will only be possible to fly by taking off cross wind.
- Observe the No Flying Zones on the diagram (Click
Here To See Diagram) At All Times. Note That The Golf Course Is A
No Fly Zone.
- The pilot of any model crashing or landing on the
Golf Course will be suspended for flying at this site for a minimum period
of Six weeks.
The following rules apply
specifically to Helicopters (The Secondary Patch)
- For Safety Reasons the helicopter flight line has
been set 200 metres from the M62 and in a position where pilots will have
their backs to the motorway at all times. Please refer to the Diagram.

- The pilot is responsible for insuring that
spectators, other members and instructors do not stray from the allocated
Pits Area during the flight.
- First Flight Helicopters, aircraft unknown to the
pilot or after any repair work has been carried out must be checked
to have at least ZERO or NEGATIVE pitch at low throttle with
idle trim UP (i.e. they must not have POSITIVE PITCH) This
does not apply to Fixed Wing Aircraft.
- The "Helicopter" section of the BMFA Handbook
must be read and fully understood before flying.
If there is anything you do not understand then you must seek
clarification by an experienced Helicopter Pilot. the
recommendations made in the handbook must be adhered to at all
times.
- Special attention to radio receivers, crystals,
plugs, sockets, leads, switches and batteries is required with
helicopters. Use foam to protect items from vibration and bind them to the
fixed frame of the aircraft with tape to prevent them becoming
disconnected. All connecting plugs and sockets must be taped together.
Never tape any part of the radio control system to removable parts of the
helicopter (such as cowl or canopy)
- The use of "Ball Type" Training Undercarriages is
only allowed if they are fitted with additional Hoop at the extremes to
prevent oscillation. Hoop type trainer undercarriages are recommended.
- Helicopters are potentially more dangerous than
Fixed Wing Aircraft. Appropriate Supervision MUST always be to hand. If
you are in doubt regarding what level of supervision is appropriate for
you then ask an experienced Helicopter Pilot.
