IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

With immediate effect the following new rules will apply.

Any model crashing or landing on ANY PART of the Golf Course MUST NOT BE RETRIEVED(1)

Members (and guests) must not fly low over the new section of the Golf Course.

The pilot of any model landing on ANY PART of the Golf Course will be suspended from flying on this site for a minimum period of three weeks(2)

Note: The current rules clearly state that flying over the "OLD" Golf Course is not permitted. You may fly over the "NEW" section of the Golf Course but only at a height sufficient to allow you to SAFELY return to our field. Please avoid flying Directly above or towards any person on the Course.

(1) The entire Golf Course is Private Property. If your model lands on the Golf Course then you have Lost It! You MUST inform a committee member of any such incident.

(2) For Learners the pilot is normally the instructor! For Guests the Pilot is the member responsible for them (i.e. the member who has brought the guest down to the field)

 

BMMFC Club Rules.

1.
 
All members MUST observe field discipline and comply with the AIR NAVIGATION ORDER, all relevant BMFA safety codes as contained in the BMFA Members Hand Book and Civil Aviation Publication (CAP) 658

2.
These rules apply only whilst using the facilities of the Bury Metro Model Flying Club. Other, supplementary, rules may apply to each specific flying site. It is the member’s responsibility to familiarise himself/herself with all rules of the club and to abide by them at all times.

3.
Membership of the Bury Metro Model Flying Club is not transferable.

4.
A current Club Membership Card must be carried at all times as proof of identity and insurance and must be produced on request.

5.
The committee may reject any application to join or rejoin the Club without explanation.

Guests

6.
Guests must comply with the rules of the Club at all times.

7.
Where a member wishes to bring a guest to fly on a Club flying site, the member must;

a. Give notice of such intention to a committee member.

b. Ensure that the guest holds a current BMFA/SMAE certificate of insurance indemnity and is qualified to at least BMFA/SMAE "A" standard (unless the guest is taking a BMFA/SMAE examination).

8.
The member is responsible for the conduct of the guest.

9.
Each club member is only allowed to bring a guest to fly on three separate occasions in any club year.


Models

10.
It is the responsibility of members to ensure prior to flying that models operated on club flying sites are within the maximum permitted noise emission level of 82dB(A) at 7 metres.

11.
Projections ahead of the propeller on powered machines, i.e. the spinner or the prop-nut, must not be less than 7.5 mm radius when measured tangentially to all intersecting surfaces.


FLYING CONDUCT

12.
Notification to the Secretary must be made of any incident or accident however small where third party and/or property is involved and must also be entered into the Incident Book with all details (date, time, nature) of the incident and the names of witnesses.

13.
A member is deemed to be a qualified pilot when that member has attained the BMFA/SMAE "B" certificate.

14.
No member to fly unaccompanied by a qualified pilot until that member attains the BMFA/SMAE "A" certificate.

15.
Landing and take-off areas will be designated and circuit directions fixed at each session. Members must check and confirm these before flying.

16.
The transmitter control system "The Peg Board" must be used (and must be on the field) when more than two members are flying.

17.
A current transmitter frequency flag must be displayed on the transmitter at all times.

18.
Transmitters must not be switched on under any circumstances unless the pilot is in possession of the frequency peg.

19.
When flying, all transmitters must be operated from the designated flight line at all times (including gliders).

20.
Before landing an audible warning must be given.

21.
Landings have priority over all other manoeuvres.

22.
All models will be operated with due care and consideration to members of the public, animals, other modellers and the environment.

23.
On sight of a low flying, full size aircraft, all models in flight must descend to a safe low altitude.

24.
Dangerous flying will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the committee.


RADIO CONTROL EQUIPMENT

25.
Only 35 MHz "type approved" or 2.4 GHz “type approved” radio control equipment will be allowed on Club flying sites.

26.
No 35 MHz transmitter must be switched on unless the pilot has the appropriate frequency peg in his possession.

27.
Members are responsible for keeping their equipment in GOOD Working order.

28.
Telescopic aerials must be kept retracted in the pits.


DISCIPLINE

29.
ALL Flyers must observe the established flight line and stand in the designated area when flying. Spectators must remain in the Spectator Area whilst flying is in progress.

30.
Any person wishing to enter or cross the runway must seek clearance from the pilots flying at the time.

31.
Litter and model wreckage must not be left on the field. Separate rules apply to models which inadvertently land (or crash) on the Golf Club area. See Separate Information (IMPORTANT PLEASE READ. at top of page)

32.
Before starting an engine the model must be suitably restrained either by tether or an assistant.

33.
Under NO circumstances must an engine be run unless all persons are behind the line of the propeller with the exception of the person starting the engine. When carrying out power checks all persons including the pilot are to be behind the line of the propeller.

34.
No more than Five aircraft shall be airborne at any one time.

35.
Mobile telephones are not to be taken to the flight line.

36.
Children must be supervised at all times. No dogs are allowed on the field unless held on a lead.

37.
Any accident involving third party or another member must be reported to the club's BMFA Delegate as soon as possible, who will then inform the Executive Committee.


Car Parking

38.
Car Parking is restricted at the field. The area immediately in front of the entrance gate is strictly Turning, Unloading and Loading. The use of the Entrance to Egypt Farm for turning is Strictly Forbidden. If al the car spaces are full then the cars must be parked on the lane (not the track to the field)

39.
Any member who contravenes these rules will be dealt with at the discretion of the committee. The penalties (verbal warning, written warning, suspension or expulsion) will be set by the committee but members have the right to appeal against any such rulings.

Supplementary Rules for Unsworth Moss Farm (Simister) Flying field 15th January 2006

Please make sure you are aware of the following rules because we all want to keep the Unsworth Moss Farm Flying Fields. Failure to comply with these rules will result in disciplinary action being taken. Please note that we have two fields at this site; The primary patch is for Fixed Wing Aircraft Only and the secondary patch is for Helicopters Only Please refer to the site Map Click Here To See.

  1. Drive down the road through Simister Slowly and Courteously. Give way to other cars and horses. On the track which crosses the Motorway Bridge please be careful because Simister residents walk their dogs and children play on the track. also look out for children from Egypt Farm just over the bridge.
     
  2. Only Fixed Winged Aircraft may use the Primary Patch and can use all 35MHz channels between 56 and 86 inclusive. EXCLUDING 85 already allocated to helicopters.
    2.4Ghz can also be used. Click Here To See Club Frequencies.
     
  3. Helicopters may only be flown on the secondary patch and must only use channels 85, 87, 88, 89 or 90

  4. Frequency control for ALL flyers  is the PEG-ON PEG-OFF system using the Peg Board situated in the Pits on the Primary Patch. You MUST have a Peg with Your Name on it before you can fly at this site. Always remember to "Close Down Your Frequency" by returning the Peg after you have flown.
     
  5. Park Single File on the LEFT hand side of the track as you approach the 'T' junction near the field. NO PARKING on the Right hand side or on the track which runs alongside the field.
     
  6. All models must meet the 82dB(A) noise limit prior to flying as specified in the general rules. It is Your responsibility to make sure that your model is quiet. The club owns several noise meters and committee members can arrange to meet you at the field to carry out tests.
     
  7. Total engine capacity of any model must not exceed 50cc
     
  8. Flying times for internal combustion engine models are 10am to 9pm on Weekdays and 10amto 6pm on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. Silent Flight models (e.g Electric) may be flown at Any Time. No Flying Christmas Day For ALL Models.

    The following rules apply specifically to Fixed Wing Aircraft (The Primary Patch)
     
  9. NO Taking Off directly towards the wires or the Pits irrespective of wind direction. Under certain conditions it will only be possible to fly by taking off cross wind.
     
  10. Observe the No Flying Zones on the diagram (Click Here To See Diagram) At All Times. Note That The Golf Course Is A No Fly Zone.
     
  11. The pilot of any model crashing or landing on the Golf Course will be suspended for flying at this site for a minimum period of Six weeks.

    The following rules apply specifically to Helicopters (The Secondary Patch)
     
  12. For Safety Reasons the helicopter flight line has been set 200 metres from the M62 and in a position where pilots will have their backs to the motorway at all times. Please refer to the Diagram. Click Here To See Diagram
     
  13. The pilot is responsible for insuring that spectators, other members and instructors do not stray from the allocated Pits Area during the flight.
     
  14. First Flight Helicopters, aircraft unknown to the pilot or after any repair work has been carried out must be checked to have at least ZERO or NEGATIVE pitch at low throttle with idle trim UP (i.e. they must not have POSITIVE PITCH) This does not apply to Fixed Wing Aircraft.
     
  15. The "Helicopter" section of the BMFA Handbook must be read and fully understood before flying.
    If there is anything you do not understand then you must seek clarification by an experienced Helicopter Pilot. the recommendations made in the handbook must be adhered to at all times.
     
  16. Special attention to radio receivers, crystals, plugs, sockets, leads, switches and batteries is required with helicopters. Use foam to protect items from vibration and bind them to the fixed frame of the aircraft with tape to prevent them becoming disconnected. All connecting plugs and sockets must be taped together. Never tape any part of the radio control system to removable parts of the helicopter (such as cowl or canopy)
     
  17. The use of "Ball Type" Training Undercarriages is only allowed if they are fitted with additional Hoop at the extremes to prevent oscillation. Hoop type trainer undercarriages are recommended.
     
  18. Helicopters are potentially more dangerous than Fixed Wing Aircraft. Appropriate Supervision MUST always be to hand. If you are in doubt regarding what level of supervision is appropriate for you then ask an experienced Helicopter Pilot.
