'A' 'B' & 'C' Certificate Achievements for 2009/2010
And The BMMFC AGM  Awards

First Of The Season. THREE IN A ROW ON THE SAME DAY!
12 April 2009

Congratulations To Austin on passing his Fixed Wing 'B' Certificate.

Austin has been flying for many years and always puts on a good performance with every model he fly's. Fast and hard flying is what he loves best but can put on a brilliant scale flight with models like his Thunderbolt.
On the test however, he seemed to slow down a little but still put on a grate performance, more than enough to pass the 'B'
He admitted after that he did lower his rates a little and calm down on the flight.

Unfortunately a photo of Austin could not be obtained because he was so busy dialling in his high performance rates and setting up for what he called 'Proper flying'

Congratulations To Andy on passing his Fixed Wing 'B' Certificate.

There has always been friendly competition between Andy and Austin so when it came to doing their 'B' Cert the gauntlet was thrown.

Again, a brilliant display was flown but as Andy said, there was a few times during the test when he was hoping it was just sweat running down his leg!

His face was seen to go red a couple of times at the end of the flight when the dreaded questions began, but pass he did and well deserved it was too!

After the test, A VICTORY FLIGHT was flown and with the 'Pucker Factor' gone Andy was back to his normal self.... What Is Normal??

12 April 2009

Congratulations To Steve on passing his Fixed Wing 'A' Certificate.

Steve has not been with the club very long but has been very enthusiastic from the start.
He spent all day changing his mind, and his underpants, about doing the test. At one point he even went home but eventually came back but still undecided.

As the light was fading and everyone was packing up to go home, he finally decided to take the plunge and go for it...... at grate risk of a bolocking from his other half for being late home!

A final change of undies and he was off into the first circuit.
He was obviously nervous and worried about the earache he would get for being late home which showed in the flight. BUT! when the test was over the kind gentleman with the 'Freedom to Fly passes' gave him the golden handshake..... Steve Had Passed! Well Done Mate!

28 November 2009

Congratulations To Dave (pegleg) on passing his
Fixed Wing 'A' Certificate.

A bit embarrassing "Blowing My Own Trumpet" so to speak, but who else is going to upload this to the website.

Cold, wet and muddy! That was the state of the field on the day of my test.
All prept and ready for a couple of burn up's before the "Man" arrived, Rob on standby ready to take me through a couple of mock tests before the big one.

Ready for takeoff, down the runway and abort! The dam thing would not get off the ground. Back to the pits, a quick check over and bending of the undercart, try again. Still No Go. The muddy field had got a grip on my trusty trainer and was not about to give it up so easy.

Then Dave Prescot arrived and saved the day.
He bent the undercart so far down, the tail was dragging. BUT IT DID DO THE TRICK!
Only time for one pre test flight now so I made the most of it.

Apart from a couple of cockups by Pilot and Examiner :-) the test went well and I felt confident about it. It was the questions I was dreading!

Again though, all went well, after getting my tongue untied, so the Licence to thrill, kill crash and burn was handed over.

I can only thank Austin, Andy, Rob and Dec for getting me through the "A". Without all their help and patience I think I would still be waiting to do my test this time next year. Thanks Guys!

BMMFC Awards 03 December 2009
Congratulations To: Eb Swarbrick. Most Improved Flyer Of The Year 2009 Fixed Wing.

Eb Passed his "A" not so long ago and progressed onto more adventurous models. His trusty Trainer has not been put to one side though, he still does a few laps round the field with it on odd occasions.
Eb is a dab hand at landings now, you may think he is aborting when you see him come in low then power up and go round again.
You think wrong! This is a devious plan he has come up with to lull the moles into thinking they are safe. After a few "Low Passes"
Eb will suddenly approach, line up on an unsuspecting Mole and suddenly POUNCE on them. Many a mole has suffered a bad headache from Ebs cunning landings, it makes them think twice about coming back and digging ruddy big holes on the strip.

Well done Eb!

Congratulations To: John Durkin. Most Improved Flyer Of The Year 2009 Helicopter.

Little is known about this strange and bewildering young man.
He is seen on odd occasions to be wandering around the fixed wing field sniffing the gentile aroma of Bacon Butties.

One thing we do know is he is a good heli pilot….. or so we have been told.
Anyway, he got the award so it must be true, Well Done John

John is the one on the Left next to the Hobbit

Congratulations To: Richard Budd. Instructor Of The Year 2009 Helicopter.

Now we have to be very careful about what we say about this Gentleman.
Richard is the club’s chief examiner for both rotary and fixed wing so we have to be nice.

Joking aside, Richard does a lot of work for the club and gets plenty of exercise running from the helie field to the fixed wing field and back taking student pilots for their BMFA “A” test, as well as more experienced pilots for “B”. In-between that he is instructing at the helie field. An Award well deserved, congratulations Richard

Congratulations To: Austin. Joint Clubman Of The Year 2009

Not many people see how much Austin puts into the club. They see him flying, but what goes on in-between is rarely noticed.
Austin is a person who will help anyone who needs it. Giving advice, Showing how to do things, helping to set up a model are just a few of the many things he will help out with.
Austin helped out enormously at the September Fun Fly giving safety advice and Marshalling the event.
He is a wealth of knowledge when it come to Electric Flight and is more than willing to pass on that information to beginners and experienced pilots alike.
Congratulations and Well Done Austin.

The other Joint Clubman Of the year???? Oh, that was me. I’m not going to babble on about myself am I!

It's Me (on the right) with the big chief himself on the left

2010
Congratulations To: Myles Plumb on passing his 'A' certificate. Fixed Wing
Sunday 17 October 2010 was a cold and windy day. Myles didn't get off to a good start as he had left his one and only RX at home!
After begging and pleading, he managed to rent one from Dec for a few quid an hour. Now Myles thought it would be just a normal days flying but after a few batteries worth of flying, the name Richard Budd was mentioned and Myles turned into a quivering lump of jelly.
His next flight went up with a uncharged battery resulting in a rather dodgy landing and a broken tail fin.
After a few kick's up the rear end, Myles was gently persuaded to "Get back on the horse" and get a couple of practice runs in before he did his test.

The time came and Myles could not put it off any longer, so off he went hand in hand with Richard.
The flight went very well from what us Hecklers, sorry Spectators saw. It was the interrogation after the flight that seemed to take hours.
Alas, the green sheet was handed over and Myles was now licensed to thrill and kill.

Well done Myles, Your 'B' Is Booked For November!
