Important Information: The Northern Festival of Speed Event that was to be held on Sunday 22 April was postponed. We are looking at setting a new date for the event as soon as posssible so please keep checking the events page for information. |
We
hope that you will take a few moments to browse the site and learn about
our club.
Founded over 35 years ago and with a membership of over 90 members each
year since, we can be rightly proud of our record in promoting a happy
and successful model flying club.
We have the exclusive use of two flying fields in Simister, one for fixed wing aircraft and one for helicopters, with parking facilities for both.
Both fields are open for flying 364 days a year, sorry no flying Christmas Day, with a secure on-site clubhouse. It has cooking facilities (make a brew and bacon butties), storage space and is a respite from those sudden downpours. We also have a BBQ for long summer days, events and our increasingly popular night flying events.
Events
Throughout the year we run a variety of events for the enjoyment of the general public and other clubs around the country. A full list is available by clicking here and they are always fun and a great place for newbies to meet other members.
We currently do not have an upper limit on membership and welcome newcomers and experienced pilots. Details of membership can be found here
Thinking of taking up the hobby?
BMMFC can help you by offering you a chance
to come down
to the field and
spend the day with us. Have a chat with
the members, buddy up with an
instructor and "have a go"
with our club training model.
The instructor will take you through the basic Safety Rules applying to the type of model you will be flying, basic instruction on the control movements on the model and instructions on the Transmitter. He will then give you a Pre Flight Briefing before getting the model in the air. Once you feel comfortable, the controls will be handed over to you via a dual control system that allows you to “Have A Go" in compete safety.
If the weather is fine and the wind is favorable then you will almost certainly find a member or two down at the field any day of the week and particularly at weekends. If you would like to take up our offer of a trial flight you can contact us on our club mobile 07715 411628 where our Hon. Secretary Dave Wilson will be happy to take your call.
